Alternatively Xanthos (from the Greek for 'reddish-yellow').
In classical mythology, Achilles' wonderful horse, the brother of Balius, Achilles' other horse, and offspring of Zephyr and the harpy Podarge. Also, the name of a Greek city of Lycia, Asia Minor.
Xanthus and its brother Balius were given by Poseidon to Pelopes as a gift to draw the gods chariot across the sky.
On being chided by his master for leaving Patroclus on the field of battle, Xanthus turned his head reproachfully, and told Achilles that he also would soon be numbered with the dead, not from any fault of his horse, but by the decree of inexorable destiny.
