Amy
Alternatively named
Avnas.
According to the German demonologist Johann Wier
in his 'Pseudomonarchia
Daemonum', Amy is a demon,
a powerful Great President of Hell and
one of the princes of the infernal monarchy, ruling 36 infernal legions.
He appears in Hell in the form
of a flaming fire, but on Earth he puts on the shape of a human being:
"Amy is a great president, and appeareth in a flame of
fier, but having taken mans shape, he maketh one marvelous in astrologie,
and in all the liberall sciences, he procureth excellent familiars, he
bewraieth treasures preserved by spirits, he hath the governement of
thirtie six legions, he is partlie of the order of angels, partlie of
potestats, he hopeth after a thousand two hundreth yeares to returne to
the seventh throne: which is not credible."
Amy's office is to make one wonderfully knowledgeable in astrology and all
the liberal sciences. He is also said to
provide very good and faithful familiars,
and to help find hidden treasures guarded by spirits. He is the 58th of the 72 spirits of Solomon
and his orders are acknowledged by the fallen angels; he hopes that at
the end of 200,000 years he shall return to heaven and occupy the
seventh throne.
S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers, in his
The Goetia, The Key of Solomon the
King, says of Amy:
"The Fifty-eighth Spirit is Amy, or
Avnas. He is a Great President, and appeareth at first in the Form of a
Flaming Fire; but after a while he putteth on the Shape of a Man. His office
is to make one Wonderful Knowing in Astrology and all the Liberal Sciences.
He giveth Good Familiars, and can bewray Treasure that is kept by Spirits.
He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits, and his Seal is this, etc."
Amy's horoscope
sign is Scorpio (October 23 - November 1 / 1° - 10°) and his planet, as
well as his metal, is Mercury.
His tarot card is the 5 of Cups.
