Amon
Also spelled
Aamon.
In demonology
Amon is a Grand Marquis
of Hell, a demon commanding forty infernal
legions. He is the seventh of the 72 spirits of Goetia (see King Solomon).
According to some
descriptions, Amon vomited flames and had the head of a serpent with the
body of a wolf (and vice-versa). Other demonologists described him as a man with a
raven's head. He could discern the past and foretell the future, and
supposedly reconciled friends and foes. He was also said to procure love.
Reginald Scot records
about this demon:
"Amon or
Aamon, is a great and mightie marques, and commeth abroad in the likenes
of a woolfe, having a serpents taile, spetting out and breathing flames
of fier; when he putteth on the shape of a man, he sheweth out dogs
teeth, and a great head like to a mightie raven; he is the strongest
prince of all other, and understandeth of all things past and to come,
he procureth favor, and reconcileth both freends and foes, and ruleth
fourtie legions of divils."
This is what Johann
Wier says about Amon in his 'De Praestigiis Daemonum':
"Amon, or Aamon,
is a great and mightie marques, and commeth abroad in the likenes of a
woolfe, having a serpents taile,
[vomiting] flames of fier; when he putteth on the shape of a man, he
sheweth out dogs teeth, and a great head like to a mightie
[night hawk]; he is the strongest prince of all other, and understandeth
of all things past and to come, he procureth favor, and reconcileth both
freends and foes, and ruleth fourtie legions of divels."
In the The Goetia, the Lesser Key of Solomon the King, this is what is said
about Amon:
"The 7th spirit is Amon. He is a Marquis great in power
and most strong, he first appereth like a wolf with a serpents taile,
vomiting ou of his mouth fleames of fire, but at ye command of ye magician
he putteth on ye shape of a man, with dogs teeth beset in a head like a
raven, or in a ravens head, hee telleth [of] all things past and to come,
and procureth love, and reconcileth controversies between freinds and foes,
and governeth 40 legions of spirits, his seal is thus, wch is to be worne as
afforesaid."
Amon is
one of Astaroth's assistants. He knows past
and future, giving that knowledge to those who had made a pact with
Satan.

Navigation areas are completed, but the word definition pages are not. The
layout in these pages might not look as good as they should. Updating them

person working on this site in my spare time.

Forums, so we can all discuss the
